About the Festival

Over six days Kinofilm 2010 will screen 200 shorts over 30 programmes, selected from over 1000 submissions from across Europe.

SHORTS

Not to be missed is the hilarious Oscar© nominee: Granny O’Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty with Kathleen O’Rourke, screening in Animation. At the oppose end of the genre scale, Kino Extreme explores edgy, challenging new work including Tom Geens’ award winner You’re the Stranger Here. Elsewhere, theLove Stories programme explores romance in all its forms, including a wistful break up for the iPod generation in Modern Life is Rubbish, with rising stars Rafe Spall and Rebecca Night. Another Oscar© nominated short, Rabbit a la Berlin (2010 Documentary Short) is a rare treat and we are very excited to announce a special screening of this year’s BAFTA Best Short Film nominees.

FEATURES

Alongside the impressive shorts programmes, there are six debut features to look forward to in the “Transitions” strand, from directors who cut their teeth in short film. David Whitney’s acclaimedKandahar Break is a definite stand out, the topical, tense drama following a mine clearer in late-1990s Southern Afghanistan. Horror fans will find their adrenalin pumping with local filmmaker Lawrence Gough’s Salvage, in which a sleepy cul-de-sac is plunged into fear when a mysterious ship container washes up nearby. Kinofilm will be welcoming directors featured in the “Transitions” strand to the festival to share their views on making the jump from short to feature.

PANEL DISCUSSIONS

Kinofilm will host a series of panel discussions with writers, directors, producers, distributors and industry professionals from across the UK. The key focus of these discussions will be the transition made by filmmakers crossing over from short to feature length filmmaking, and will be discussed by several filmmakers who's first features will be shown at the festival.

*The festival pass includes entry to all shorts programmes, feature screenings and panel discussions, but does not include entry to any educational events.
